Rumors about Rhodium Plating are rampant. Thats a lot of "R's" Rhodium plating is very popular now that white metals are in vogue. It seems about every 10 years or so metals colors change. Years ago white metals , mostly platinum, where the in item. When platinum ran short during wars, white gold was starting to be used. White gold is actually yellow gold that has been altered in color by using Nickle and zinc (white metals) instead of brass and copper as alloys. Often times the yellow would 'leak" through and show up. Rhodium is then electroplated over the white gold to keep it white longer. The process varys from store to store. A proper Rhodium plating consists of several electronic baths before the actual Rhodium plating. The plating solution itslef varys from local to local. The end result is a beautiful brite white color. As white gold became more prevalant there developed a need for a "better" white gold. This has been aacomplished and now we only use white gold in our casting that does not require rhodium, EVER. The price to have a simple ring rhodium plated will vary from 25-75 dollars. The price usually depends on the procedure used and the quality and freshness of the Rhodium plate. For questions please email or call. We are happy to help.
